Shout out to Edgar Allen Poe

I wanted to do something a little dark, but not scary, Halloweeny (I ♥ adding Y to words to make adjectives!) but not flaming orange. I decided to cover a canvas with torn book pages and quote Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" "Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.'"

I started with a canvas from a prior project that was a complete screw up from the get go. Then I tore random pages from a book that I picked up at the Thrift Store.

I wanted an aged look so I crumpled the pages

then unfolded smoothing it back out a bit

then distressed the edges with Distressing Ink.

After all my pages were done, I laid it out for size, leaving a bit of paper hanging over the edge to wrap around the canvas.

After I had it laid out, I started Mod Podging them down.

Once it was covered, I gave it a top coat of Mod Podge

and cut out the word "nevermore" out of brown vinyl with my Cricut. I finally bit the bullet and bought the Sure-Cuts-Alot Software, and let me tell you, if you own a Cricut, it's so worth the $53.00 investment. I found it for $59.99 and then a coupon code for an additional 10% off.

In the end it turned out perfectly. And the good news it, with the surface being covered in Mod Podge, the vinyl will come off super easy and I can put new words on the top for other holidays.

This is a great idea! I love it! I have the software for the Cricut and am embarrassed to say -- I still barely know how to use it! I can never get the words to be connected! Anyway, I love this!
